Next Revolution in Red Dot Optics

[ad_1]

Sig Sauer has officially launched the ROMEO-M17 red dot sight that was seen at SHOT Show 2023. The sight was originally developed in part with the Army’s Modular Handgun System and is designed specifically to fit the MHS M17/M18 pistols, M17/M18 Commemorative Special Editions, and M17/M18 Surplus pistols.

“The fully sealed ROMEO-M17 is the next revolution in red dot optics; it answers the call to withstand the rigors of the battlefield and works seamlessly with the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System,” said Andy York, President, Sig Sauer Electro-Optics.

“The ROMEO-M17 is the first red dot sight to incorporate SIG SAUER’s patent pending SIG-LOC mounting system. SIG-LOC (Leveraged Optimized Connection) features a new proprietary bottom-mount technology that has multiple interface features between the pistol slide and the optic that provides for an extremely strong and robust lock-up. This new mounting system, when combined with the side mounted battery on the ROMEO-M17, allows the optic to have an extremely low position when mounted to the slide, giving the user a full sight picture and co-witness with the existing standard-height iron sights. This sight was engineered, tested, and built in Oregon to be the ultimate aiming solution for the MHS pistols.”

Fully Enclosed

The Mil-Spec electro-optics ROMEO-17 is a fully enclosed system that has been sealed and gas-purged. The 7075 Aluminum housing is machined with anti-reflection grooves to keep down glare, and it contains an integrated gas deflector in the front end. With the system being fully enclosed, Sig states the optic has ultimate protection from the elements.

Mounting

The ROMEO-M17 mounts differently than any other optic on the market. Thanks to the special cuts in the slide, the ROMEO-M17 mounts from the underside of the slide and is held in place with screws. This allows the optic to sit extremely low on the slide for easy co-witness with the standard height sights. At the present, the ROMEO-M17 is not compatible with the standard P320 or P320-M17/M18 slides, but Sig states those compatible slides will be coming soon.

Function

The optic itself is a high-efficiency point source red LED emitter with a 2 MOA dot/32MOA circle reticle. Independent brightness adjustment buttons on the exterior of the housing have tactile bumps, making them accessible to the user even when wearing gloves. Of the 15 brightness levels to choose from, three are optimized for use with Gen 3+ night vision devices. The side-mounted CR2032 battery compartment allows for changing out the battery without removing the optic.

“The ROMEO-M17 is the pinnacle of pistol-mounted red dot optics, and we are immensely proud that it has been tested and selected to receive a NATO Stock Number (NSN) from the U.S. Army so this innovative technology and ruggedized performance is easily attainable and available to our warfighters,” concluded York.

The Sig Sauer Electro-Optics ROMEO-M17 is fully assembled in the USA and has an MSRP you’d expect from Sig at $809.99.

Heckler & Koch officially announced the SFP9CC at an event in Germany. Sketches and images have been strategically leaked, so this serves to confirm the belief that a micro-compact was coming. The SFP9CC is being described as a one-and-a-half stack pistol thanks to its capacity and overall design. This pistol is chambered in 9mm and offers numerous features designed for defensive purposes.

According to available information, there are two versions of the SFP9CC. The first is the standard model which is made with ambidextrous controls and offered with or without a Picatinny rail for accessories. Second is the Shape, a pistol created for specific contouring and comfort. The Shape doesn’t have ambidextrous controls because it’s made for deep concealment, but it does have a specially shaped slide and frame. Capacity for the pistols is 10 +1 with the flush fit magazine and said to be 13 +1 with an extended magazine.

According to Arex, this is a gun meant to be consistently reliable for tactical use, and it’s made to perform accurately whenever and wherever you need it. The Delta Gray Wolf features an extended threaded barrel, making it ready for muzzle devices whether you choose a suppressor or compensator. It has the same striker double-action trigger as the basic Delta GEN.2 model which, the company states, has proven itself to be a safer option than other designs, such as a fully-cocked single-action striker.

Other features of the gun include a subtle gray finish, aggressive forward and rearward slide serrations, and an enhanced magwell. This gun is designed with a magwell that facilitates fast reloads and makes loading a magazine without looking easier to accomplish. The trigger guard is squared off and controls are ridged as needed for traction during use. A textured grip also gives shooters a more positive grip during live fire. There’s also an accessory rail in front of the trigger guard. Guns ship with standard adjustable rear and fiber optic front sights.

SNEAK PEEK: Night Fision Fiber Optic Sights

[ad_1]

Night Fision, a Detroit-based manufacturer of advanced tritium insertion solutions, has a sneak peek of its next sight offerings, the Fiber Optic sights for Glock, Smith & Wesson, and Sig Sauer.

Nght Fision Fiber Optic Sights
Night Fision, a Michigan-based sights manufacturer, has given a sneak peek of its latest sights, the Fiber Optics sights. Available in two height options, it features a front fiber optic insert with a blank rear sight. The sights should be available in mid-February. (Photo credit: Night Fision)

The next iteration of the sights will be available in Standard Height and Optics Ready blade height. The fiber optics sights will have the color inserts of red and green, with a deeper red called Ruby coming soon after. In addition, the Optics Ready fiber optic sights, much like the Optics Ready Stealth line, will be a CNC machined steel sight body with serrations to eliminate glare along with smooth or beveled edges to minimize snag.

“This is something that we’ve been working on for awhile and cannot wait to release. Fiber Optic sights are something we haven’t done before, but not something we aren’t familiar with. These fiber sights offer clear visibility in all environment conditions. Middle of the night, foggy, rain? No problem,” says Rachel Maloney, Director of Marketing for Night Fision.

The Night Fision fiber optic sights have a blank square rear sight with a set screw to match up with the fiber optic front. The sights are set to hit the market in mid-February 2023 and more information regarding specifications and pricing should be available then.
